Technology & DevelopmentJob Description:
We are looking for a Senior Audio Engineer to join the Game Production core systems team, King's cross-platform mobile game-engine and content-creation platform. Our engine, editor, and toolchain empower hundreds of developers and support some of King's largest live games.
As a senior engineer, you will combine deep hands-on audio engineering expertise with broad ownership across engine and editor systems. You will evolve our core audio runtime, shape audio authoring workflows in the game editor, and contribute to wider platform capabilities ensuring game teams, sound designers, and fellow engineers can build and ship high-quality, sonically rich experiences efficiently.
Own the design, implementation, and long-term health of the audio runtime engine, editor-side audio tooling, and the APIs that connect them, from low-level platform backends to high-level content workflows.
Deliver new audio capabilities and improve existing systems, including 3D audio, audio routing and mixer architecture, interactive music, and audio component handling in the nodegraph.
Maintain and evolve platform audio backends across all supported targets, including mobile platforms, ensuring correct, performant behaviour across the full range of deployment environments.
Build and improve audio authoring workflows in the game editor: importers, components, preview support, and tooling that keeps sound designers productive and content pipelines stable.
Support game teams and audio teams directly, diagnosing integration issues, resolving regressions, and helping content reach production reliably.
Take ownership of varied engine and editor tasks beyond audio when needed, contributing to core platform stability, editor/engine architecture, and shared toolchain concerns.
Drive technical design decisions across your areas, balancing performance, reliability, maintainability, usability, and delivery needs.
Raise engineering quality through thoughtful code reviews, testing, documentation, and pragmatic improvements to development practices.
Mentor and support other engineers, sharing domain knowledge and helping the team make sound technical decisions.
Collaborate effectively with engineers, technical artists, sound designers, product partners, and other stakeholders in an Agile environment.
Extensive professional experience developing production audio software, game audio engines, middleware, platform audio backends, or equivalent performance critical systems.
Strong understanding of real time audio fundamentals, including mixing, routing, spatialisation, streaming, and low latency pipeline design.
Experience developing audio tools and authoring workflows, ideally within a game editor or content creation environment.
Strong C++ and software design skills, with experience building maintainable, scalable systems and optimizing performance and memory usage through profiling and debugging.
Ability to navigate complex, ambiguous technical problems independently and lead solutions from discovery through delivery.
Willingness to take ownership across engine and editor systems, contributing as a core engineer with audio expertise.
Strong communication and collaboration skills in English, with a customer focused approach to supporting game teams, audio designers, artists, and other nontechnical partners.
A passion for games and game development.
Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools or an interest in how machine learning and generative AI are shaping game audio and engine workflows.
Experience with interactive or adaptive music systems, including editor preview and content workflow support.
Familiarity with haptics or other platform sensory feedback systems.
Experience with game-engine architecture, editor/tool development, asset pipelines, build systems, or runtime systems beyond audio.
Experience supporting live games and operating shared technology used across multiple teams.
Familiarity with automated testing, CI/CD, CMake, Python, or modern source-control workflows.
Experience mentoring engineers or providing technical leadership
You will be successful when the audio stack is stable, performant, and easy for game teams and sound designers to build on; when audio content pipelines remain unblocked and regressions are resolved quickly; and when your contributions to the broader engine and editor platform help teams move faster with confidence. The right person thrives both in focused audio engineering and in the wider platform ownership that keeps a shared, production-facing system healthy.
